Buying A Car – Should I buy a new or used car?

Each year in the UK, used car sales outnumber new-car purchases by around three to one. Here, we look at the pros and cons of buying a new car versus an old one.

Buying a new car

The big advantages of new cars are threefold. Firstly, buyers get to choose the exact specification. Secondly, the owner will get benefits such as the full warranty package and any ‘sweetener’ deals that are on offer at the time of purchase. Finally, there will be no unknown history to worry about.

There are more good reasons to buy new. Newer cars will have more advanced technology. The value of this should not be underestimated, particularly in the areas of fuel efficiency (where huge advances have been made comparatively recently) and safety. Features such as stability control give invaluable or even life-saving help in the event of an emergency.

On the downside, it’s also true that most breakdowns in modern [...]

Ex UK vs Ex Japanese cars

Ex UK vs Ex Japanese cars
1. History

The Ex UK cars come with main dealer history plus servicing history. Cars from Japanese exporters are normally sourced from car auction sites and the car’s history is not usually taken into consideration when purchasing is being made. In comparison, when purchasing UK cars, the cars’ history is one of the most important factors taken into consideration. A Cat D (a car that had been involved in a minor accident and repaired) will have this information passed to the new owner and will not, therefore, fetch the market price for a clean car that has never been involved in an accident.

2. Language

The system software is in English, unlike the Japanese versions. This is very important as nearly all modern cars come with OBC (On Board Computer). A problem such as low-pressure tyres will immediately be recognised and displayed on the multipurpose screen thus allowing the driver to act in time before [...]

Toyota Camry, Honda Civic inventories rise, report says

The Toyota Camry and the Honda Civic face risks of reduced production as inventories of the models rise.

The Toyota Camry and the Honda Civic, the top-selling mid-size and compact cars in the U.S., face risks of reduced production as inventories of the models rise, an RBC Capital Markets report said.

Toyota’s Camry exceeded its seasonal historical average inventory by more than 15 days supply in June. Honda carried about 25 days more Civics than usual, Joseph Spak, a New York-based analyst for RBC, said in today’s report. Camry and Civic were the only models identified as at risk for reduced output among 16 of the top-selling vehicles in the U.S. market. General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Group LLC all added U.S. market share in the first six months of 2013, the first time that all three gained the first-half share in 20 years.
