Shipping to the Cayman Islands
No carrier on our schedule sails from the UK to the Cayman Islands direct, which is why this page has no sailing table. Cars reach Grand Cayman by transhipment, most often through Kingston, Jamaica, where Seaboard Marine has run a direct weekly service to George Town since 1995, one the island's car importers have long used to bring vehicles in via Jamaica. We quote the routing per booking.
At George Town the Port Authority of the Cayman Islands runs the cargo port, which handles vehicles and has a RoRo berth on its north side; ships are limited to 6,000 tonnes deadweight and a 5.5-metre draught, small enough to rule out deep-sea car carriers.
Model year within eight years
The Cayman Islands prohibits the import of any vehicle whose model year is eight years or older, under paragraph 4A of the Customs and Border Control (Prohibited Goods) Order. Customs and Border Control counts from the current year: since 1 January 2026 a model year of 2018 or earlier is a prohibited import and the vehicle is seized. A classic, vintage, antique, replica or kit car built and assembled in Europe or North America and at least twenty years old can come in on exhibition plates, for shows and club events rather than everyday use, and any vehicle at least thirty years old qualifies as an exhibition vehicle on the same terms. A Caymanian returning to live after a year or more abroad may bring in one vehicle they have owned and used for at least a year, and lorries, delivery vans, motorcycles and scooters sit outside the limit. Tell us the car and we will check its model year before anything is booked.
Tell us what you are looking forCustoms and Border Control asks importers for the bill of lading, the pro forma and final invoices, the vehicle title, export certificates and proof of payment; the full V5C travels with the car, less the permanent export section that goes to DVLA. Once cleared, the car is inspected by the Department of Vehicle and Drivers' Licensing, and its Certificate of Road Worthiness, the registration application form and proof of insurance go to a licensing officer to register and licence it.
We handle the UK end: sourcing the car, tax-free supply from the selling dealer where it qualifies, collection, UK export clearance and the DVLA paperwork, and loading. We can also arrange the onward leg to George Town, clearance, registration and delivery to your door through a local agent, quoted separately, or work with an agent of your choice.
Documentation Required for Booking
- Car Registration Document (V5 or Logbook) and Vehicle Invoice (or value).
- ID (one government-issued photo ID and one utility bill showing address).
Payment Terms / Modes
- A £1,000 deposit secures a vehicle we source or buy for you. It is part of the price, not an extra fee. If you cancel, our terms and conditions say what is refunded.
- The balance is due in full, in cleared funds, before the vehicle is loaded, unless your quotation sets out different terms.
- Bank transfer preferred. Card payments up to £5,000, with no fee on personal debit or credit cards.
- Letters of credit, cheques, money orders and cash are not accepted.
Our Other Services
UK Car Sourcing & Supply
We source any new or used vehicle from any manufacturer in the UK, through our network of franchised dealers, car auctions, classified listings and private sellers, then inspect, purchase and export it to your country.
Buy a Car in the UK on Your Behalf
We check, view and buy the UK car you've found, from a dealer or a private seller, then ship it to you, protecting you from the pitfalls of paying an unknown seller from overseas.
Tax-Free & VAT-Free Vehicle Supply
We find new and VAT-qualifying used cars from VAT-registered dealers who will sell them free of UK VAT for export, which takes a sixth off a VAT-inclusive price. The saving comes from the dealer, not as a refund from us: we are not VAT registered. We arrange the export and give the dealer the proof it needs.
New / Used Car Export
We export new and used cars from the UK every week, sourced from our dealer, auction and trade network or supplied by you, given a multi-point inspection before shipment and shipped worldwide by RoRo or container.
Pre-Purchase Inspections
Before you commit to a car, we check its DVLA, MOT and recall records and run a paid UK history check, then view it, compare it with its logbook and send you photos and a video. A full mechanical inspection by an independent inspector can be added, quoted separately.
Government Pre-Shipping Inspection
Where the destination country requires a pre-export roadworthiness inspection, we arrange it with the approved inspection agency before the sailing so the vehicle is not held up on arrival. Quoted separately from the shipping price.
UK Vehicle Collection & Delivery
We collect any vehicle from any UK address and deliver it to the departure port at £1 per mile, driven on DVLA plates or moved on a carrier, timed to meet the booked sailing.
Secure Vehicle Storage
Vehicles wait with us in a secure compound between purchase and sailing, so there is no rush to move a car the day you buy it and nothing accumulating in storage charges at the port. Quoted separately from the shipping price.
Paintwork Reconditioning
Where a car would arrive the better for it, we can recondition the paintwork before it ships — worth doing while the vehicle is with us rather than paying to sort it out after it lands. Quoted separately from the shipping price.
UK Vehicle Customs Clearance
We make export declarations directly on the UK customs system and prepare every document needed at the UK port of exit, including the Bill of Lading, export certificate and DVLA export documentation.

Tax-Free Vehicle Supply and UK VAT
UK Preferential Origin (Reduced Import Duty)
Some UK-built vehicles may qualify for reduced or zero import duty. That depends on the UK having a trade agreement with the destination country and on the car meeting that agreement's rules of origin. During your quote, we'll confirm whether the vehicle you're interested in qualifies.
VAT-free Supply of VAT-Qualifying (VATQ) Cars
A VAT-registered dealer can sell a new car, or a used car that carries VAT on its full price, free of UK VAT when it is exported and HMRC's conditions are met. Used cars of that kind are known in the trade as VAT-qualifying: typically ex-rental or ex-lease cars, where the hire or leasing company reclaimed the VAT when it bought them. On a VAT-inclusive price, the VAT is one-sixth. A used car sold under the second-hand margin scheme is different: VAT is due only on the dealer's margin, and HMRC does not let a dealer zero-rate it as an ordinary export. We are not VAT registered, so the saving comes off the dealer's price, not as a refund from us. We arrange the export to the Cayman Islands and give the dealer the proof of export it needs.
HMRC's Personal Export Scheme (PES)
The Personal Export Scheme lets overseas visitors and UK residents who are leaving the UK, and will stay outside it with the car for at least six months, buy a car free of VAT and use it here before it is exported. Only VAT-registered businesses can operate the scheme, so you buy from a dealer that runs it. The car must leave within 12 months of delivery for an overseas visitor, or 6 months for a UK resident, or the VAT becomes payable. It can suit anyone relocating to the Cayman Islands: we find a dealer that runs the scheme and ship the car when you are ready. How the scheme works.

How much does it cost to ship a car from the UK to the Cayman Islands?
RoRo shipping starts from around £5,270 per vehicle, and a 20ft container from about £4,979. Those are indicative rates from our published rate table and move with the market, so call us for the latest. Which ports can my car be shipped to in the Cayman Islands?
George Town. We confirm the arrival port when the booking is made.
Is there an age limit on cars imported into the Cayman Islands?
Yes. The Customs and Border Control (Prohibited Goods) Order prohibits the import of any vehicle whose model year is eight years or older, and Customs and Border Control counts from the current year: since 1 January 2026 a model year of 2018 or earlier is a prohibited import and the vehicle is seized. The Order carries exceptions. A classic, vintage, antique, replica or kit car, or any other vehicle, built and assembled in Europe or North America and at least twenty years old can be imported on exhibition plates, for shows, club events and parades rather than everyday use, and any vehicle at least thirty years old qualifies as an exhibition vehicle on the same terms. A Caymanian who has lived abroad for at least a year and is returning to live may bring in one vehicle they have owned and used for at least a year. Lorries, delivery vans, motorcycles and scooters are outside the limit.
How does a car get from the UK to George Town?
No carrier on our schedule sails from the UK to the Cayman Islands direct, which is why this page shows no sailing table. Cars reach Grand Cayman by transhipment: a deep-sea sailing to a regional hub, then a feeder vessel, most often from Kingston, Jamaica, where Seaboard Marine has run a direct weekly service to George Town since 1995. The Port Authority of the Cayman Islands runs the George Town cargo port, which handles vehicles and has a RoRo berth, but it is limited to ships of 6,000 tonnes deadweight and a 5.5-metre draught, so deep-sea car carriers do not call. We quote the routing per booking and can arrange the onward leg, clearance, registration and delivery to your door through a local agent, quoted separately, or work with an agent of your choice.
