Shipping to Morocco

Our Moroccan sailings discharge at Tanger Med and Casablanca. At Casablanca, which Marsa Maroc calls the first port of the Kingdom, cars roll off at Marsa Maroc's Ro-Ro terminal: two ramps rated at 100 and 35 tonnes, a five-storey store for 5,000 vehicles and a vehicle traffic that Marsa Maroc puts at 100,000 units for 2019, the year it quotes. Tanger Med, which some carriers list as Tangier, is on the Strait of Gibraltar, and its two vehicle terminals can handle a million vehicles a year; they moved 600,872 in 2024, most of them Renault and Stellantis exports, with 27,410 imports among them. The current schedule has RoRo sailings with Höegh Autoliners and Grimaldi and container sailings with MSC.

Under five years old to be homologated

Moroccan customs puts the rule plainly: under the Code de la Route and its implementing texts, only a vehicle under five years old may be admitted for homologation, and without homologation there is no registration. The exceptions are for Moroccans resident abroad and for adapted vehicles: a retired MRE with ten years abroad may import a saloon of up to ten years and nine seats, an MRE returning for good a used saloon under ten years, and anyone a vehicle under ten years adapted abroad for a person with special needs. So for most buyers a UK car has to be under five years old on the day it is cleared, which rules out most of the used market. Traffic keeps to the right; if a left-hand-drive car suits you better, tell us the model, trim and budget and we will go into the UK and European market for it and quote the car and the shipping together.

Tell us what you are looking for

Clearance is with the ADII, the customs and excise administration, which asks for the car's registration document and a certificat d'identification from the registration centre, and calculates the duty and taxes on a foreign-registered car through its MCV application. Moroccans resident abroad have two reliefs worth knowing about: at 60 or over, with ten years' residence abroad, a 90% reduction on the as-new value of a personal car up to 300,000 dirhams; and on a definitive return, three years' notional ageing, applied as a 25% reduction, with six months from the certificate of change of residence to clear the car. To register the car afterwards, the transport ministry asks for the foreign registration document, a roadworthiness test report validated by the national testing and homologation centre, the identification certificate with the individual acceptance report, the customs clearance certificate in the new owner's name and the receipt for the registration fee.

Here we source the car, arrange tax-free supply from the selling dealer where it qualifies, collect it, complete UK export clearance and the DVLA paperwork, and see it loaded. Sailings leave from Southampton, Liverpool, Felixstowe, Tilbury, London Gateway and Newcastle. The full V5C log book travels with the car, less the permanent export section that goes to DVLA. At the Moroccan end we can arrange clearance, homologation, registration and delivery to your door through a local agent, quoted separately, or work with an agent of your choice.

Documentation Required for Booking

  • Car Registration Document (V5 or Logbook) and Vehicle Invoice (or value).
  • ID (one government-issued photo ID and one utility bill showing address).

Payment Terms / Modes

  • A £1,000 deposit secures a vehicle we source or buy for you. It is part of the price, not an extra fee. If you cancel, our terms and conditions say what is refunded.
  • The balance is due in full, in cleared funds, before the vehicle is loaded, unless your quotation sets out different terms.
  • Bank transfer preferred. Card payments up to £5,000, with no fee on personal debit or credit cards.
  • Letters of credit, cheques, money orders and cash are not accepted.

Our Other Services

UK Car Sourcing & Supply

We source any new or used vehicle from any manufacturer in the UK, through our network of franchised dealers, car auctions, classified listings and private sellers, then inspect, purchase and export it to your country.

Buy a Car in the UK on Your Behalf

We check, view and buy the UK car you've found, from a dealer or a private seller, then ship it to you, protecting you from the pitfalls of paying an unknown seller from overseas.

Tax-Free & VAT-Free Vehicle Supply

We find new and VAT-qualifying used cars from VAT-registered dealers who will sell them free of UK VAT for export, which takes a sixth off a VAT-inclusive price. The saving comes from the dealer, not as a refund from us: we are not VAT registered. We arrange the export and give the dealer the proof it needs.

New / Used Car Export

We export new and used cars from the UK every week, sourced from our dealer, auction and trade network or supplied by you, given a multi-point inspection before shipment and shipped worldwide by RoRo or container.

Pre-Purchase Inspections

Before you commit to a car, we check its DVLA, MOT and recall records and run a paid UK history check, then view it, compare it with its logbook and send you photos and a video. A full mechanical inspection by an independent inspector can be added, quoted separately.

Government Pre-Shipping Inspection

Where the destination country requires a pre-export roadworthiness inspection, we arrange it with the approved inspection agency before the sailing so the vehicle is not held up on arrival. Quoted separately from the shipping price.

UK Vehicle Collection & Delivery

We collect any vehicle from any UK address and deliver it to the departure port at £1 per mile, driven on DVLA plates or moved on a carrier, timed to meet the booked sailing.

Secure Vehicle Storage

Vehicles wait with us in a secure compound between purchase and sailing, so there is no rush to move a car the day you buy it and nothing accumulating in storage charges at the port. Quoted separately from the shipping price.

Paintwork Reconditioning

Where a car would arrive the better for it, we can recondition the paintwork before it ships — worth doing while the vehicle is with us rather than paying to sort it out after it lands. Quoted separately from the shipping price.

UK Vehicle Customs Clearance

We make export declarations directly on the UK customs system and prepare every document needed at the UK port of exit, including the Bill of Lading, export certificate and DVLA export documentation.

Tax-Free Vehicle Supply and UK VAT

UK Preferential Origin (Reduced Import Duty)

Some UK-built vehicles may qualify for reduced or zero import duty. That depends on the UK having a trade agreement with the destination country and on the car meeting that agreement's rules of origin. During your quote, we'll confirm whether the vehicle you're interested in qualifies.

VAT-free Supply of VAT-Qualifying (VATQ) Cars

A VAT-registered dealer can sell a new car, or a used car that carries VAT on its full price, free of UK VAT when it is exported and HMRC's conditions are met. Used cars of that kind are known in the trade as VAT-qualifying: typically ex-rental or ex-lease cars, where the hire or leasing company reclaimed the VAT when it bought them. On a VAT-inclusive price, the VAT is one-sixth. A used car sold under the second-hand margin scheme is different: VAT is due only on the dealer's margin, and HMRC does not let a dealer zero-rate it as an ordinary export. We are not VAT registered, so the saving comes off the dealer's price, not as a refund from us. We arrange the export to Morocco and give the dealer the proof of export it needs.

HMRC's Personal Export Scheme (PES)

The Personal Export Scheme lets overseas visitors and UK residents who are leaving the UK, and will stay outside it with the car for at least six months, buy a car free of VAT and use it here before it is exported. Only VAT-registered businesses can operate the scheme, so you buy from a dealer that runs it. The car must leave within 12 months of delivery for an overseas visitor, or 6 months for a UK resident, or the VAT becomes payable. It can suit anyone relocating to Morocco: we find a dealer that runs the scheme and ship the car when you are ready. How the scheme works.

Morocco Car Shipping FAQs

Common questions about shipping a vehicle from the UK to Morocco.

How much does it cost to ship a car from the UK to Morocco?

RoRo shipping starts from around £878 per vehicle, and a 20ft container from about £1,786. Those are indicative rates from our published rate table and move with the market, so call us for the latest. A full export quote also covers the UK-side work: customs clearance, port handling, DVLA paperwork and export documentation.

How long does shipping from the UK to Morocco take?

Current carrier schedules show 1-3 weeks port to port, sailing from Southampton, Liverpool, Felixstowe, Tilbury, London Gateway and Newcastle. Transit varies with the routing and how many ports the vessel calls at on the way. The live sailing schedule on this page shows the actual dates for each upcoming sailing.

Which UK ports do sailings to Morocco depart from?

Southampton, Liverpool, Felixstowe, Tilbury, London Gateway and Newcastle, with Höegh Autoliners, MSC and Grimaldi. We collect vehicles from any UK address and deliver them to the departure port.

Which ports can my car be shipped to in Morocco?

Tanger Med and Casablanca. Which one your vehicle sails to depends on the service and the date, and we confirm it when the booking is made.

Can I ship a car older than five years to Morocco?

Only in the cases the law carves out. Moroccan customs (ADII) states that under the Code de la Route only a vehicle under five years old may be admitted for homologation, the step before registration. The exceptions are for Moroccans resident abroad: a retired MRE with at least ten years abroad may bring in a saloon of up to ten years old with no more than nine seats, an MRE returning to Morocco for good may bring in a used saloon under ten years old, and a vehicle under ten years old adapted abroad for a person with special needs is also admitted. For anyone else the car has to be under five years old when it is cleared, so tell us the age you need and we will source accordingly.

What paperwork does Moroccan customs want for the car?

ADII lists the registration document of the vehicle, in original and copy, and a certificat d'identification issued in duplicate by the registration centre. Moroccans resident abroad claiming the age-60 relief add proof of ten years' residence abroad from their consulate and a copy of their residence permit, and those returning for good have six months from their certificate of change of residence to clear the car. ADII's MCV application calculates the duty and taxes on a foreign-registered car. For a UK car the registration document is the V5C log book, which travels with the car less the permanent export section that goes to DVLA.
