Approximate — call for the latest rates. These are indicative shipping rates from our published rate table. They cover the sea leg to the port Brunei is reached through — Singapore — and do not include the onward leg from there, which is quoted separately. They move with the market and with the vehicle, and a full export quote covers the UK-side work listed below as well, so treat them as a guide rather than a final price. The table does not publish a RoRo rate for Brunei, so that one is quoted per booking — we do sail it, and the schedule below shows the departures. See the full rate table or ask us for an itemised quote.
What a full export quote covers
- Loading and lashing vehicle into ship

Not covered
- Pre-Export Inspection (if required)
- Marine Insurance (container only)
- Collection and/or delivery of the vehicle

Apart from import duty, taxes, port storage and demurrage at the destination, which the importer always pays, we can add any of these to your quotation, priced separately, along with customs clearance, registration and delivery to your door through a local agent.

Shipping to Brunei
Cars for Brunei come ashore at Muara, the country's deep-water port on Brunei Bay, about 28 km from Bandar Seri Begawan. Muara Port Company, a joint venture between the government's Darussalam Assets and China's Beibu Gulf port group, took over the container terminal in February 2017 and the whole port in July 2018. The lines it lists include Maersk, Pacific International Lines, Evergreen, COSCO, MTT Shipping, Hapag-Lloyd and OOCL, and Singapore is one of the trade lanes they serve. The port guide to Muara has the details.
No ship sails there from the UK. The car travels to Singapore on the deep-sea leg and is transhipped onto one of those regional services, normally in a container: our published rate for Brunei is a container figure, and RoRo into Muara is quoted per booking. Traffic in Brunei keeps to the left, so a UK right-hand-drive car puts the driver beside the centre line, as at home.
Permit first: a used car needs Land Transport and Customs approval
Brunei treats a used vehicle as a controlled import. The Brunei Darussalam National Single Window lists used cars, motorcycles, mini buses, pickups, trucks and trailers among the goods that need a licence or permit, issued by the Land Transport Department and the Royal Customs and Excise Department, and the Ministry of Finance and Economy's import guide sets the order: the importer applies for an approval permit online through the e-Customs system, the Land Transport Department verifies and endorses it, Customs verifies and approves it, and only then does the forwarding agent lodge the import declaration through the Single Window. Customs' schedule of restricted imports also names motor cars, motorcycles, lorries, buses, tractors and trailers three years old or more. The permit comes before the sailing, not after, so give us the model and year and we will hold the booking until the approval is in hand.
Tell us what you are looking forThe permit application and the import declaration both need the sales invoice, so keep it. The car's V5C log book travels with the car, less the permanent-export section that goes to DVLA, and Customs inspects the consignment at the checkpoint before it is released to the forwarder.
The UK end is ours: sourcing the car, tax-free supply from the selling dealer where it qualifies, collection from any UK address, UK customs clearance and export documents, and loading. Sailings leave from Felixstowe, Southampton, London Gateway, Liverpool and Bristol. We can arrange the onward leg from Singapore, clearance into Brunei and registration through a local agent, quoted separately, or work with an agent of your choice.
Documentation Required for Booking
- Car Registration Document (V5 or Logbook) and Vehicle Invoice (or value).
- ID (one government-issued photo ID and one utility bill showing address).
Payment Terms / Modes
- A £1,000 deposit secures a vehicle we source or buy for you. It is part of the price, not an extra fee. If you cancel, our terms and conditions say what is refunded.
- The balance is due in full, in cleared funds, before the vehicle is loaded, unless your quotation sets out different terms.
- Bank transfer preferred. Card payments up to £5,000, with no fee on personal debit or credit cards.
- Letters of credit, cheques, money orders and cash are not accepted.
Our Other Services
UK Car Sourcing & Supply
We source any new or used vehicle from any manufacturer in the UK, through our network of franchised dealers, car auctions, classified listings and private sellers, then inspect, purchase and export it to your country.
Buy a Car in the UK on Your Behalf
We check, view and buy the UK car you've found, from a dealer or a private seller, then ship it to you, protecting you from the pitfalls of paying an unknown seller from overseas.
Tax-Free & VAT-Free Vehicle Supply
We find new and VAT-qualifying used cars from VAT-registered dealers who will sell them free of UK VAT for export, which takes a sixth off a VAT-inclusive price. The saving comes from the dealer, not as a refund from us: we are not VAT registered. We arrange the export and give the dealer the proof it needs.
New / Used Car Export
We export new and used cars from the UK every week, sourced from our dealer, auction and trade network or supplied by you, given a multi-point inspection before shipment and shipped worldwide by RoRo or container.
Pre-Purchase Inspections
Before you commit to a car, we check its DVLA, MOT and recall records and run a paid UK history check, then view it, compare it with its logbook and send you photos and a video. A full mechanical inspection by an independent inspector can be added, quoted separately.
Government Pre-Shipping Inspection
Where the destination country requires a pre-export roadworthiness inspection, we arrange it with the approved inspection agency before the sailing so the vehicle is not held up on arrival. Quoted separately from the shipping price.
UK Vehicle Collection & Delivery
We collect any vehicle from any UK address and deliver it to the departure port at £1 per mile, driven on DVLA plates or moved on a carrier, timed to meet the booked sailing.
Secure Vehicle Storage
Vehicles wait with us in a secure compound between purchase and sailing, so there is no rush to move a car the day you buy it and nothing accumulating in storage charges at the port. Quoted separately from the shipping price.
Paintwork Reconditioning
Where a car would arrive the better for it, we can recondition the paintwork before it ships — worth doing while the vehicle is with us rather than paying to sort it out after it lands. Quoted separately from the shipping price.
UK Vehicle Customs Clearance
We make export declarations directly on the UK customs system and prepare every document needed at the UK port of exit, including the Bill of Lading, export certificate and DVLA export documentation.

Tax-Free Vehicle Supply and UK VAT
UK Preferential Origin (Reduced Import Duty)
Some UK-built vehicles may qualify for reduced or zero import duty. That depends on the UK having a trade agreement with the destination country and on the car meeting that agreement's rules of origin. During your quote, we'll confirm whether the vehicle you're interested in qualifies.
VAT-free Supply of VAT-Qualifying (VATQ) Cars
A VAT-registered dealer can sell a new car, or a used car that carries VAT on its full price, free of UK VAT when it is exported and HMRC's conditions are met. Used cars of that kind are known in the trade as VAT-qualifying: typically ex-rental or ex-lease cars, where the hire or leasing company reclaimed the VAT when it bought them. On a VAT-inclusive price, the VAT is one-sixth. A used car sold under the second-hand margin scheme is different: VAT is due only on the dealer's margin, and HMRC does not let a dealer zero-rate it as an ordinary export. We are not VAT registered, so the saving comes off the dealer's price, not as a refund from us. We arrange the export to Brunei and give the dealer the proof of export it needs.
HMRC's Personal Export Scheme (PES)
The Personal Export Scheme lets overseas visitors and UK residents who are leaving the UK, and will stay outside it with the car for at least six months, buy a car free of VAT and use it here before it is exported. Only VAT-registered businesses can operate the scheme, so you buy from a dealer that runs it. The car must leave within 12 months of delivery for an overseas visitor, or 6 months for a UK resident, or the VAT becomes payable. It can suit anyone relocating to Brunei: we find a dealer that runs the scheme and ship the car when you are ready. How the scheme works.

Brunei Car Shipping FAQs
Common questions about shipping a vehicle from the UK to Brunei.
How much does it cost to ship a car from the UK to Brunei?
A 20ft container starts from around £1,381 per vehicle. Those are indicative rates from our published rate table and move with the market, so call us for the latest. A full export quote covers the UK-side work as well: customs clearance, port handling, DVLA paperwork and export documentation.
How long does shipping from the UK to Brunei take?
Current carrier schedules show 3-7 weeks to Singapore, sailing from Felixstowe, Southampton, London Gateway, Liverpool and Bristol. Allow extra for the onward leg to Brunei and for collection and UK export clearance either side. The live sailing schedule on this page shows the actual dates.
Which UK ports do sailings for Brunei depart from?
Felixstowe, Southampton, London Gateway, Liverpool and Bristol, with MSC, Hyundai Glovis and EUKOR. We collect vehicles from any UK address and deliver them to the departure port.
Which port does my car arrive at in Brunei?
Muara, the country's deep-water port. No vessel on our schedule sails there direct from the UK, so the deep-sea leg runs to Singapore and the vehicle is transhipped onto the regional service into Muara. The rates and dates on this page cover the sea leg to Singapore. The onward leg to Muara is not included in our price; we quote it separately and confirm the routing at booking.
Do I need a permit before shipping a used car to Brunei?
Yes. Used vehicles are on the Brunei Darussalam National Single Window's list of goods that need a licence or permit, issued by the Land Transport Department and the Royal Customs and Excise Department. The government's import guide has the importer apply for an approval permit online through the e-Customs system, the Land Transport Department endorse it and Customs approve it before the forwarding agent lodges the import declaration. Customs' restricted-import schedule also names motor cars three years old or more. Apply before the car is shipped: we hold the booking until the approval is through, and the sales invoice is needed for both the application and the declaration.
How does a car get from Singapore to Muara?
On a regional container service. No vessel on our schedule sails from the UK to Brunei, so the car goes to Singapore on the deep-sea leg and is transhipped there. Muara Port Company lists Maersk, Pacific International Lines, Evergreen, COSCO, MTT Shipping, Hapag-Lloyd and OOCL among the lines calling at Muara, with Singapore among their trade lanes. The rates on this page cover the sea leg to Singapore only; the onward leg to Muara is quoted separately, and RoRo into Muara is quoted per booking. We can arrange that leg, clearance and registration through a local agent, or work with an agent of your choice.
