About Port of Douala-Bonabéri
Douala is Cameroon's main port, handling about 95% of the country's port traffic, and is the leading port of the CEMAC region. It has 26 berths along 5.5 km of quays spread across the Douala and Bonabéri banks of the river, and its access channel has to be dredged continuously, with the inner section maintained at about 7.5 metres.
Area served: Douala is the principal sea outlet for landlocked Chad and the Central African Republic under preferential CEMAC arrangements.
How Vehicles Are Handled at Douala
Vehicles arrive both by ro-ro and in containers. A description of the port's terminals lists a 100-metre ro-ro berth within the container terminal area at quays 14 to 17, which is now run by the Régie du Terminal à Conteneurs (RTC), a subsidiary of the port authority that took over from the private concessionaire in 2020. RTC is adding 250 metres of quay and 7.9 hectares of yard under a contract awarded to Negri in December 2022, aiming for a capacity of one million TEU.
