About Port Georgetown
Georgetown is Guyana's main port, made up of privately run wharves along the Demerara River ship channel. The Ports and Harbours Division of the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) provides pilotage, buoyage and channel dredging, and in May 2026 the government signed a US$11.2 million contract with Boskalis to dredge about 9 km of the Demerara channel. The channel averages about 5.5 m at low tide, so the port is served by feeder container ships, car carriers, bulk carriers and tankers rather than large ocean vessels.

How Vehicles Are Handled at Georgetown
There is no single vehicle terminal; car carriers and other ships discharge at private river wharves. In May 2026 the Höegh Pacific landed 800 vehicles from Asia at the Guyana National Shipping Corporation wharf, which its agent described as the largest RoRo call to Guyana so far, and customs notices from February 2026 show imported vehicles held at the John Fernandes and GNIC wharves. John Fernandes and Muneshwers commissioned Guyana's first two mobile harbour cranes, 125 tonne units, at their Water Street wharves in February 2025.

Paintwork Reconditioning
Where a car would arrive the better for it, we can recondition the paintwork before it ships — worth doing while the vehicle is with us rather than paying to sort it out after it lands. Quoted separately from the shipping price.
UK Vehicle Customs Clearance
We make export declarations directly on the UK customs system and prepare every document needed at the UK port of exit, including the Bill of Lading, export certificate and DVLA export documentation.
